Abstract
The author of the article studies the place of pedagogical diagnostics in the social sciences through a paradigm shift. The author examines the pedagogical diagnostics in its connection with the general theory of measurement. This relationship determines the methodological basis of diagnosis as an independent science. N. Golubev also discusses general methodological principles of educational assessment.
