Gender Differences in the Individual Values of the Dagestan Youth

Abstract

The aim of this article is to determine on the basis of the empirical study results, the generality and differences in the structure of the individual values of Dagestan young men and girls. Method. S. S. Bubnova diagnostics methods of person’s individual structure of value orientations (pair-wise comparison of 11 generalized values). Results. It is found that there are differences in the significance of such values as material well-being, high social status, recognition and respect for people, high social activity (they are more significant for young men) and love (more important for girls) between young boys and girls. The values of recognition and respect for people, communication, knowledge and high social activity are more important for the boys, and the values of love and a pleasant pastime are important for the girls. Conclusion. Differences in value preferences between boys and girls reflect the role expectations in relation to them, existing in this culture. Men show more desire for social recognition, women – readiness for love and care for others.
