THE PROBLEM OF STUDYING THE TERMS-SYNONYMS IN TEACHING THE ENGLISH SPECIAL VOCABULARY AT THE NON-LINGUISTIC FACULTIES
Abstract
The synonymy of terminological systems is a natural linguistic phenomenon. The terminological synonymy is often associated with the concept of art, that suggests a detailed study of this phenomenon because the lecturers of the art faculties and institutes come across these terms and have no scientifically based information of them.
In the article some conclusions about semantic features of one semantic group of English terms of painting and graphics with a "colour" common meaning: colour, tone, tint, shade, hue, tinge, cast are represented. The authors note that there are no dictionaries which point to distinctive features of the semantic structure of these words. The authors of the article as a result of a detailed studying of the lexical combination of terms and contexts of their simultaneous usage came to the conclusion that they have a complex semantic structure. They are interchangeable and in some cases they have certain semantic characteristics. The authors state that the terms-synonyms should be learned at the speech level for making more precise and supplement of the lexicographical facts at the language level which helps to full valuable teaching the special vocabulary at non-linguistic faculties.
